Writing

Spend a couple of decades in broadcast journalism and you'll learn how to write quickly and accurately. You'll also begin to understand that writing to communicate is an intensely personal activity.

The words I write may be read by hundreds, thousands, or millions of people, but I do not write for "mass communication" because each of those individual readers will read the words alone.

Right now, it's just you and me. That's the way your website must communicate: Individually. Personally. One-on-one.

If your goal is clear communication, send me an e-mail and I'll get right back to you.

The monthly newsletter

Clients receive a monthly newsletter by e-mail. That newsletter is available on-line, too. Topics range from website management to spam prevention, with occasional looks at the future of technology. Past issues are in the archive.

Philosophical essays

Occasionally I write a philosophical piece. The topics are eclectic, to say the least. You may even find that one point of view is diametrically opposed to another. The articles are in the vault.

The typewriter is a feared invention: That blank sheet of paper can be intimidating. A blank word processor screen can be even more intimidating. When I'm having trouble getting started, I remind myself to get out of "edit" mode and start writing. Collect facts. Get the basic information down on paper (or screen). Then work on structure, organization, and style.
